Disclaimer

Appliance Fix Desk publishes troubleshooting information, not repair
instructions tailored to your appliance, your home, or your skill level.
Our guides explain what an error code or symptom means and describe the
checks and fixes that the manufacturer’s documentation supports. They
are educational material. They are not a substitute for a qualified
appliance technician
, and nothing on this site overrides the safety
warnings in your appliance’s own manual. If anything here and your
manual disagree, follow the manual.

The hard-stop list

Some work should never be a DIY job, no matter how clear a guide makes
it sound. Our guides do not provide step-by-step instructions for the
following, and neither should anyone without the proper training,
certification, and tools:

  • Gas appliances and gas lines — leaks and carbon monoxide kill.
  • Mains-voltage electrical work (120V / 240V) — including opening
panels on a connected appliance, replacing internal wiring, heating
elements, motors, or control boards, and anything that involves
bypassing a safety switch, interlock, fuse, or thermal cut-out.
  • Sealed refrigeration systems — compressors, refrigerant lines, and
anything that requires opening the sealed system. Refrigerant handling
    is also regulated.
  • Water near electrics — a leak or standing water in or under an
appliance with live electrical parts is a stop-and-call situation,
    not a drying exercise.

Every guide on this site carries a “when to stop and call a
professional” section, and every individual fix is labelled DIY-safe or
call-a-professional. Treat those labels as part of the guide, not as
fine print.

Before any check we describe

  • Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) before opening
anything, unless the manufacturer’s procedure for that specific check
    says otherwise.
  • Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hose or valve.
  • Capacitors in some appliances (notably microwaves) can hold a lethal
charge after unplugging. Do not open them.
  • If you are unsure at any step, stop. A service call costs less than
an injury, a flood, or a written-off appliance.

Accuracy limits

Guides are verified against manufacturer documentation for the models
they name, and our facts are versioned and corrected when manufacturers
revise them. Even so: the same error code can mean different things on
different models, part numbers change, and a symptom almost always has
more than one possible cause. A guide narrows the problem down; it
cannot diagnose your specific appliance from a distance. Prices we quote
for parts are typical ranges checked on the date stated in the guide,
not quotes.
